San Rafael del Yuma sits at the southeastern tip of the Dominican Republic, a quiet fishing town a short drive from the dramatic cliffs and turquoise shallows of Parque Nacional del Este. La Estancia Golf Course occupies land in La Altagracia province — the same Dominican province that holds Punta Cana and Cap Cana — though it sits well apart from the resort corridor, giving it a distinctly local, unhurried character that the big resort layouts rarely achieve.
The course plays across open Caribbean lowland terrain, where trade winds off the sea are a near-constant factor and can shift a mid-iron by a club or more in either direction. The vegetation leans toward palms and scrub rather than the manicured tropical landscaping of the resort belt, and the light in this corner of Hispaniola has a particular clarity in the early morning hours that makes the round worth starting at first tee time.
As a community-scale layout labeled "Course 1," La Estancia appears to serve local players and regional visitors rather than the destination golf market, offering an accessible, everyday game in a corner of the Dominican Republic that international golfers rarely reach.
