The Bruce

Kinross sits at the heart of Perthshire, in a stretch of central Scotland where the landscape opens up around Loch Leven — a broad, shallow loch famous for its trout fishing and as the site of Mary Queen of Scots' imprisonment on its island castle. It's a quietly confident part of the country, away from the Highland tourist trail but surrounded by genuine Scottish golf culture, with courses like Gleneagles just a short drive to the northwest.

The Bruce is one of 2 18-hole courses at the Green Hotel Golf Courses, a well-established resort operation in the town. Named for Robert the Bruce, Scotland's warrior king whose connections to this part of Perthshire run deep, the course carries a strong sense of local identity. Its par of 73 suggests a layout with at least a couple of longer par 5s or an extra par 3, giving the card a slightly unconventional rhythm compared to a standard par-72 design.

For visiting golfers, Kinross makes a practical and rewarding base — close enough to St Andrews, Gleneagles, and Perth to build a serious golf itinerary, but with enough on its own doorstep to justify the stop.
