Gates Four Country Club occupies a well-regarded corner of Fayetteville's private golf landscape, a city whose identity is inseparable from Fort Liberty — one of the largest military installations in the world. That proximity has long shaped the social fabric of the area, and private clubs here tend to reflect a community that values tradition, camaraderie, and a certain no-nonsense appreciation for the game itself.
The course plays through the longleaf pine and Carolina hardwood terrain characteristic of the Sandhills' northern edge, where the sandy soils and mild mid-Atlantic climate allow for firm, fast conditions much of the year. Fayetteville sits close enough to the true Sandhills corridor — Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Aberdeen — that its golf culture carries some of that region's reverence for the ground game and classic parkland-style design.
As a private members' club, Gates Four is built around the full country club experience: a place where regulars know the quirks of every green and the back nine holds no surprises for the Saturday morning group. Exactly the kind of course that rewards belonging.
