Few public courses in southeastern Massachusetts commit as fully to their Scottish identity as Olde Scotland Links. Designed by Brian Silva and opened in 1994, the course was built on an open, windswept tract that genuinely suits the links conceit — firm, rolling fairways, fescue-lined corridors, and a layout that rewards the ground game as much as the aerial approach. Silva, one of New England's most accomplished architects, drew on classic links principles rather than just the aesthetic, meaning the wind is not an inconvenience here but a genuine design element.
Bridgewater sits in Plymouth County, about 30 miles south of Boston, in a part of the state where the land flattens and the sky opens up — terrain that actually accommodates a links-style routing without too much theatrical invention. The course has earned a loyal following among golfers who appreciate that it plays differently on every visit depending on the breeze.
For a public-access layout, the experience leans serious. This is a course that rewards shot-making and local knowledge, and it holds up well for players at any level willing to think their way around.
