Southwood Golf & Country Club has been one of Winnipeg's most respected private clubs for decades, occupying a mature, tree-lined property in the south end of the city. The course was laid out with generous fairways framed by towering elms and oaks — a design philosophy that rewards accuracy over raw power and gives the property a distinctly park-like atmosphere unusual for the Canadian prairies. Its members have long considered it among the finest traditional tests in Manitoba.
Winnipeg's golf season runs hard and fast, compressed between a late spring thaw and an October close, which gives rounds here a certain intensity — prairie golfers don't take a playing day for granted. The city itself has a proud golf culture, and Southwood sits comfortably near the top of its private club hierarchy, drawing a membership that values the game's quieter traditions as much as its competitive ones.
As a members-only club, Southwood moves at a deliberate pace. Conditions are carefully maintained, and the atmosphere skews toward the understated — the kind of place where the golf does the talking.
