Ruby View takes its name from the Ruby Mountains that rise dramatically to the south — one of Nevada's most striking and least-touristed ranges, reaching elevations above 11,000 feet and earning the nickname "the Alps of Nevada." Playing here means doing so beneath that backdrop, with the Rubies shifting color through the day in a way that makes the course feel bigger than its acreage.
Elko sits at roughly 5,000 feet in the high desert of northeastern Nevada, a working ranching and mining town that sits well off the tourist circuit. The elevation keeps summers relatively cool by Nevada standards, the air is thin and dry, and the light has that particular clarity common to the Great Basin. Golf in this corner of the state is an unhurried, unpretentious affair — you're more likely to share the course with a local rancher than a destination traveler.
