Ashburnham Golf Club

Few Welsh golf clubs carry the kind of unbroken history that Ashburnham does. Founded in 1894, it ranks among the oldest clubs in Wales and has long been considered the premier links test in the southwest of the country. Laid out along the Burry estuary near Pembrey, the course occupies a stretch of classic duneland — firm, fast, and fully exposed to the Atlantic-influenced winds that roll in off Carmarthen Bay. Those winds are not incidental to the experience; they are the course's most formidable defense.

The design rewards players who think low and straight, shaping shots beneath the gusts rather than fighting them. The closing stretch in particular has earned a fierce reputation, with the estuary never far from view and crosswinds capable of turning a comfortable score into something considerably less comfortable in a matter of holes.

Ashburnham has hosted the Welsh Amateur Championship on multiple occasions and remains a regular venue for significant Welsh Golf Union events, cementing its place as a genuine test of links golf rather than simply a scenic one.
