Few places in France blend aristocratic history with genuine golf tradition quite like the Chantilly forest. Golf du Lys occupies the Lys-Chantilly estate in Gouvieux, a commune that sits practically in the shadow of the Château de Chantilly and its famous racing stables — this is horse country, hunting-lodge country, and the forest of Chantilly wraps the course in a canopy of tall oaks and birches that defines every round.
The layout winds through this woodland setting in the classic French forest style, where tree-lined corridors demand shape and precision off the tee rather than raw power. The terrain is relatively flat, as is typical of the Oise valley, but the mature forest creates a quiet, enclosed atmosphere that feels a world away from Paris — though the capital is barely 40 kilometers south. It is a private members' club with a distinctly old-school character, the kind of course where the setting does much of the storytelling.
Gouvieux itself sits within one of the densest concentrations of quality golf in northern France, with Chantilly Golf Club — one of France's great championship venues — just minutes away. Playing Golf du Lys means stepping into that same refined, forested corridor, with rather less ceremony and a strong sense of local club life.
