Ulricehamns Golfklubb sits on the edge of a town that punches well above its weight as a Nordic sports destination. Ulricehamn, a compact lakeside community in the hilly interior of Västra Götaland, is best known internationally as a stop on the cross-country skiing World Cup circuit, and that same undulating, forested landscape shapes what golfers encounter here. The course works through terrain typical of the Swedish uplands — rolling meadows giving way to woodland, with views toward Lake Åsunden lending the round a quiet, unhurried character that defines club golf in this part of Scandinavia.
The club has served the local community since the mid-20th century expansion of Swedish golf, a period when hundreds of member-owned clubs took root across the country, built and maintained largely by the members themselves. That cooperative, unpretentious spirit still defines the atmosphere: this is a place where serious club golfers play regularly and visitors are welcomed without fuss.
Västra Götaland offers a genuine summer golf season, with long northern evenings stretching rounds well into the night from June through August. Expect firm, fast fairways as the season matures and a layout that rewards local knowledge — the kind of course where playing with a member makes a real difference.
