Few clubs in American golf carry a résumé quite like Olympia Fields. Founded in 1915 south of Chicago, the club once operated 4 separate courses across its sprawling grounds before consolidating around its 2 championship layouts. The North Course, redesigned by Rees Jones ahead of the 2003 U.S. Open, is the centerpiece — a demanding, tree-lined test in the classic Midwestern tradition, with tight fairways, well-bunkered greens, and a closing stretch that has broken plenty of hopeful scorecards. That U.S. Open was won by Jim Furyk, and the club has since hosted the 2020 BMW Championship, where Jon Rahm's closing stretch announced him to the American public as a genuine force.
The setting — a mature, heavily wooded suburb roughly 30 miles south of the Loop — gives the property a removed, almost insular quality that suits a club of this standing. The canopy is dense, the fairways roll gently, and the whole place moves at a deliberate, considered pace.
This is a pillar of the Chicago golf establishment and one of the more consequential private clubs in the country, carrying genuine major-championship gravity without needing to announce it.
