The 1965 U.S. Open, the 1992 PGA Championship, and the 2018 PGA Championship have all been played here, the last of which produced one of the more dramatic finishes in recent memory when Brooks Koepka held on under extraordinary pressure. Jones's original design was later refined by Rees Jones, and the course is known for its demanding length, deep rough, and the kind of penal character that separates it from more strategic, parkland-style tests.
