South Woodslee sits in Essex County at the southwestern tip of Ontario, a stretch of southern Canada that dips farther south than much of the continental United States — putting it on roughly the same latitude as northern California. The region is flat, agricultural, and genuinely warm by Canadian standards, with a growing season that supports some of the country's most productive farmland and a golf window that stretches longer than nearly anywhere else in the province.
Belleview Golf Club is a community-rooted course serving a rural corner of Essex County, where the game has historically been accessible and unpretentious. Courses in this part of southwestern Ontario tend to reflect the landscape honestly — open fairways, minimal elevation change, and conditions shaped more by the rhythms of the seasons than by dramatic earthworks. Wind off Lake Erie, just a short drive south, can be a real factor on exposed layouts in the area.
For golfers coming from Windsor or the Detroit metro just across the border, Belleview and its neighbors offer a quieter, less crowded alternative to the busier urban corridors on either side of the river.
