Few names in American golf carry the weight of Oakmont, but this is not that Oakmont — and it has no need to be. Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, Texas is a private members' club occupying the suburban terrain north of Dallas and Fort Worth, where the land rolls through the communities spreading along the I-35 corridor between Denton and the Metroplex. The course plays to par 72 across 18 holes in a part of North Texas where the landscape shifts between post oak savanna and open prairie, the summers run long and punishing, and Bermuda fairways go dormant to a tawny gold each winter.
