Few clubs in the English Midlands carry quite the civic identity that Hearsall does. Coventry Golf Club at Hearsall Common is one of the city's oldest and most established members' clubs, occupying a stretch of ancient common land in the leafy Earlsdon district — a remarkable setting given that it sits well within the urban fabric of a major city. The course winds across ground that has been played over for well over a century, giving it the unhurried, settled quality that only genuinely old parkland layouts tend to possess.
The common land setting shapes everything here. Mature trees frame fairways, the ground tends to run firm underfoot in summer, and the par-70 layout rewards accuracy and course management over raw power — this is not a course you overpower, but one you read and respect.
Coventry itself is a city more often discussed for its cathedral and its industrial heritage than for its golf, which makes Hearsall something of a quiet point of local pride: a proper members' club doing things properly, in the middle of a very real city.
