Few addresses in American golf carry the social weight of Greenwich Country Club. Founded in 1892, it ranks among the oldest and most storied private clubs in New England, shaped by a membership that has long reflected Greenwich's standing as one of the wealthiest communities in the country. The course was redesigned by Seth Raynor in the early 1920s, and his fingerprints — template holes drawn from the great links of Britain, bold geometric bunkering, and dramatically contoured greens — remain central to the playing experience. It has earned consistent recognition among the top private courses in Connecticut and the broader Northeast.
Raynor's design rewards players who think their way around the course rather than simply overpowering it. The greens complexes in particular demand precision and local knowledge, the kind that members accumulate over years rather than rounds.
Greenwich itself sits at the southwestern tip of Connecticut, where Fairfield County meets Long Island Sound, close enough to Manhattan that the club draws from one of the most concentrated pools of serious golfers anywhere in the United States.
