Few Edinburgh golf clubs carry the sense of civic continuity that Craigmillar Park does. Founded in 1895, the club has long served the south side of the city, occupying land that sits within comfortable reach of the university quarter and the leafy suburbs stretching toward the Pentland Hills. It is a members' club in the truest sense — a place where the same familiar faces have been navigating the same familiar turf for generations.
The course itself is a compact, strategic parkland layout, and a par of 70 signals that length is not the primary test. Accuracy off the tee and careful course management matter more here than power, which has made it a club that rewards regular play and local knowledge. The terrain rolls enough to keep things honest, and the mature tree-lined corridors give the course a quiet, enclosed character that can feel surprisingly removed from the surrounding city.
Edinburgh's south side is serious golf country, sitting not far from courses like Mortonhall and the Braids. Craigmillar Park fits that neighbourhood well — unpretentious, well-maintained, and genuinely rewarding for anyone who takes the time to learn it.
