Rising Star sits in Eastland County, out in the Cross Timbers region of north-central Texas — a stretch of post oak and blackjack oak savanna where the land rolls and breaks in ways that catch visitors off guard. It's working ranch country, spare and sun-baked for much of the year, and golf courses here tend to reflect that honesty: no manufactured drama, just terrain doing what terrain does.
Rolling Oaks Golf Club plays to that setting. The name alone signals what to expect — elevation changes and mature oaks defining corridors and framing greens in the way only old trees can. A layout like this, in a town of roughly 800 people, exists primarily for the community and the surrounding county, the kind of place where regulars know every quirk of every green and newcomers are welcomed into that knowledge readily enough.
Small-town Texas golf has a distinct character — unhurried, unpretentious, and often more interesting than its circumstances suggest. Rising Star is that kind of stop: genuinely local, genuinely useful, and easy to underestimate.
