Few courses in the Chicago suburbs carry as storied a backstory as Old Wayne. The layout was designed by Dick Wilson, one of mid-century American golf architecture's most respected names — the man behind Cog Hill No. 4, Bay Hill, and Doral's Blue Monster. His work here reflects the same emphatic, strategic sensibility: bold bunkering, demanding green complexes, and a routing that makes full use of the gentle terrain of DuPage County's glacially-shaped landscape.
West Chicago sits in a region where the game has deep roots, and Old Wayne has long been considered a private-club experience of genuine substance — not a showpiece built on flash, but a course that rewards thoughtful play and punishes carelessness in equal measure. The membership tends to regard it with real affection, the kind that builds over decades of Saturday rounds and match-play grudges.
DuPage County's mix of open meadows and mature hardwoods gives the course a distinct seasonal character, particularly in autumn when the tree canopy turns and the air sharpens.
