Morecambe Golf Club sits on the edge of one of Lancashire's most distinctive stretches of coastline, where the vast tidal sands of Morecambe Bay create a landscape unlike anywhere else in English golf. The bay — famously dangerous in its shifting channels and tides, and hauntingly beautiful in equal measure — provides a backdrop that gives this modest seaside layout a sense of place well beyond its compact par 67.
The course itself plays as a traditional northern club layout, the kind that rewards local knowledge and a reliable short game over raw power. A par 67 means the card fills with short par 4s that can be deceptive in the coastal winds rolling off the bay, where club selection becomes a genuine puzzle and scoring is never as simple as the numbers suggest.
Morecambe town has a cheerful, slightly faded English seaside character — the promenade, the famous art deco Midland Hotel, and the improbable stone statue of Eric Morecambe all within reach. The golf club fits that spirit: unpretentious, properly northern, and worth the trip.
