Gaylord sits at the heart of Michigan's "Golf Mecca," a stretch of northern Lower Peninsula that drew architects and developers from the 1980s onward, drawn by the rolling, glacially sculpted terrain, the jack pine and hardwood forests, and land values that made ambitious projects possible. The area now hosts more championship-caliber courses per capita than almost anywhere in the Midwest, and Fazio Premier sits squarely in that tradition. The Fazio name points to the prolific Tom Fazio design family, whose courses tend to favor bold shaping, generous landing areas, and dramatic visual presentation without sacrificing playability.
Northern Michigan's high-plateau elevation means a genuine four-season rhythm — the golf window runs roughly May through October, with fall color turning the corridors into something worth the drive on its own. Conditions here lean firm and fast when the weather cooperates, and the surrounding forest keeps the layout feeling private and unhurried even on busy summer weekends.
The "Premier" designation suggests this is either the flagship or the more polished of multiple courses at a resort or multi-course facility — Gaylord has several of those — positioning it as the marquee experience rather than a warm-up round.
