Few clubs in American golf carry the quiet prestige of Quaker Ridge. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1916, it stands as one of the architect's most accomplished works — a course that rewards careful study rather than brute force, built across the rolling, rocky terrain of Westchester County that Tillinghast understood so instinctively. Its neighbor across the road is Winged Foot, which tells you something about the neighborhood.
The course has long drawn serious attention from course rankers and golf historians, consistently appearing among the top courses in the United States. It hosted the 1997 Walker Cup, the prestigious amateur team competition between the U.S. and Great Britain & Ireland, cementing its place on the national stage. The membership has always kept it in immaculate, understated condition — the kind of place that doesn't need to announce itself.
Scarsdale sits roughly 25 miles north of Manhattan in the heart of Westchester's storied golf corridor, a region that has produced more top-ranked private clubs per square mile than almost anywhere in the country. Playing Quaker Ridge is a rare opportunity.
