Situated on Lackland Air Force Base on the southwestern edge of San Antonio, Gateway Hills is a military golf course serving the men and women of one of the most significant Air Force installations in the country. Lackland is the sole entry point for Air Force basic training, meaning this course sits at a genuinely historic piece of American military geography — a place with a sense of mission and community unlike a typical civilian club.
San Antonio's Hill Country fringe terrain gives the course its character, with the rolling limestone topography, live oaks, and cedar that define this part of south-central Texas providing natural variety across the layout. The climate is warm for much of the year, allowing year-round play, though summers can be unforgiving under the Texas sun.
As is common with well-run military courses, Gateway Hills exists to serve its community first — offering accessible, affordable golf to active-duty personnel, veterans, and their families. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed and unpretentious, with a strong sense of camaraderie that civilian courses rarely replicate.
