Few municipal courses in the Dallas area carry as much everyday history as Duck Creek. Operated by the City of Garland, it has long served as the kind of accessible, unpretentious layout where North Texas golfers learn the game, work through a slump, or simply squeeze in a weekday round after work. That tradition of open-door, community golf is the course's defining character.
Garland sits in the eastern reaches of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex, and Duck Creek's namesake waterway — a tributary that winds through this part of the Metroplex — gives the layout both its identity and its principal hazard. North Texas golf means dealing with Bermuda grass fairways baked firm in summer, unpredictable spring winds rolling in from the plains, and occasional flash flooding that reminds you the creek is always a factor.
At par 71, the routing plays slightly shorter than a full-length championship test, which suits the democratic spirit of the place. This is a course built for regular play, and it shows — worn in the best possible way.
