Ærø Golf Klub sits on one of the most distinctive pieces of land in all of Danish golf — the island of Ærø, a small, unhurried corner of the South Funen Archipelago reachable only by ferry from the mainland. The island has long attracted sailors, artists, and anyone looking to slow down, and the golf club fits that spirit entirely. The course plays across the island's characteristically rolling, wind-shaped terrain, where open skies and views toward the surrounding straits are never far away. Like most Danish island golf, the wind is effectively a permanent additional hazard — the same breeze that makes Ærø one of Scandinavia's most beloved sailing destinations will routinely turn a straightforward iron into a genuine puzzle.
The club is a genuine local institution rather than a resort destination, drawing a loyal membership from the island's small year-round population alongside the visitors who discover Ærø during the warmer months. That community character gives the place a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere that larger mainland clubs rarely manage.
Søby itself sits at the island's northwestern tip, giving the course a raw, edge-of-the-world quality that is hard to manufacture and impossible to fake.
