Limpsfield Chart

Few courses in the southeast of England sit on quite such distinctive terrain as Limpsfield Chart, a 9-hole layout played twice that occupies a stretch of National Trust heathland on the North Downs escarpment above Oxted. The Chart itself — common land grazed for centuries — gives the course its name and its character: open, heathery, and exposed to the sky in a way that lowland parkland courses rarely are. The elevated ground means genuine views across the Weald of Kent and Surrey, and wind that can make a modest card feel considerably more demanding.

Oxted sits just inside Surrey's commuter belt, close to the Kent border, but the heathland above the town feels removed from all that. The turf drains freely and tends to stay playable through most of the year — a real practical advantage that heathland devotees know well.

At par 70, the course leans on variety and the quirks of the land rather than brute length. Accurate driving through heather corridors counts for more than power here, rewarding the thoughtful golfer over the aggressive one.
