Skeggjabrekkuvöllur

Ólafsfjörður is one of Iceland's more remote fishing villages, wedged into a steep-sided fjord in the Eyjafjörður area of the north — a place where mountains drop almost directly into the sea and the sky does something different every hour. Getting here used to mean a long drive around the headlands; a tunnel opened in 1991 connected it more directly to Dalvík, but it remains genuinely off the beaten path. Golf in these latitudes means playing in near-continuous daylight through the summer months, with winds that funnel and shift unpredictably through the fjord walls.

Skeggjabrekkuvöllur is the local club course serving this small community, almost certainly a short layout shaped around the limited flat ground the terrain permits. Courses like this one are a particular Icelandic tradition — maintained with real pride by small memberships, playable on the midnight sun, and offering a kind of golf that has more to do with landscape than length.

The experience here is less about scoring and more about where you are. Few places on earth put a golfer so directly inside raw northern geography.
