Few golf destinations sit quite like this one — the Costa Rica Country Club is one of the oldest and most prestigious private clubs in Central America, a long-standing institution in the San José metropolitan area that predates the country's modern tourism boom by decades. Founded in the mid-20th century, it has served as the social and sporting heart of Costa Rica's golfing community, and its membership reads as a who's who of the capital's professional and diplomatic circles.
The course itself plays through the Central Valley, where the altitude runs well above sea level and the climate stays remarkably temperate year-round — cool mornings, afternoon breezes, and that particular light you only find in highland tropics. Balls carry further in the thin air, the fairways are lush from consistent rainfall, and the surrounding mountains give the property a backdrop that flat-land courses simply cannot manufacture.
As a members-only club, the Costa Rica Country Club is not a place you stumble into. It rewards connection and invitation, and represents the more formal, traditional side of Costa Rican golf rather than the resort experience the country is increasingly known for.
