Few courses in the Chicago area carry the mystique of Rich Harvest Farms. Developed by Jerry Rich on his family's farmland in the Fox River Valley, it began as a private retreat before evolving into one of the most celebrated courses in the Midwest. Jerry Rich's singular vision — and his willingness to invest deeply in the property — produced a layout that earned national rankings and caught the attention of the USGA, which brought the U.S. Amateur to the course in 2008. The Solheim Cup followed in 2009, cementing Rich Harvest Farms as a legitimate stage for elite competition.
Sugar Grove sits about 40 miles west of Chicago in Kane County, where the flat Illinois prairie gives way to gently rolling agricultural land along the Fox River corridor. The setting is genuinely rural, and the course makes the most of it — mature trees, dramatic elevation changes by Illinois standards, and a sense of remove from the suburban sprawl pressing in from the east.
Rich Harvest Farms is not open to the public in any conventional sense, which only deepens its reputation. Access comes through Jerry Rich's personal hospitality, making an invitation something players remember. The course rewards long, accurate driving but its conditioning and attention to detail are what visitors most consistently marvel at.
