Royal Golf Bled

Few golf settings in Europe command attention quite like this one. Royal Golf Bled occupies a plateau above Lake Bled in the Slovenian Alps, with the Julian Alps rising sharply to the north and the church-topped Bled Island visible from several holes. The course was established in 1937, making it one of the oldest in the former Yugoslavia, and it carries a genuine aristocratic pedigree — it was a favorite of Marshal Tito, who used the surrounding Bled estate as a presidential retreat during the Yugoslav era.

The layout was designed by Donald Harradine, the prolific Swiss-based British architect who shaped dozens of Continental European courses across the mid-20th century. His routing makes intelligent use of the undulating meadowland terrain, with tree-lined fairways that shift in elevation and reward precise positioning off the tee. The backdrop is frankly extraordinary — few courses anywhere in the world offer this quality of alpine panorama as a constant companion.

Bled itself is Slovenia's most celebrated resort destination, drawing visitors to its medieval castle, thermal lake, and easy access to Triglav National Park. The course sits just outside the town near Žirovnica, a quiet rural community in the Gorenjska region.
