Few corners of Oklahoma carry as much golf history as the northeastern tip of the state, where the Ozark Plateau rolls into the Grand Lake country and the landscape turns surprisingly green and hilly for a state most outsiders picture as flat prairie. Miami — pronounced locally as "My-am-uh" — sits in Ottawa County, a former hub of the zinc and lead mining industry whose boom-era wealth left behind a surprisingly rich civic culture, and golf was very much a part of it.
