Few clubs in Canada carry the weight of history that Shaughnessy does. Founded in 1911 and named for the CPR president whose railway helped open the Pacific coast, the club relocated to its current site in the Point Grey neighbourhood in 1960, where A.V. Macan's original design was later refined by notable hands. The course has been a fixture on Canada's top-course lists for decades and served as the centerpiece of the 1985 Canadian Open, where Curtis Strange claimed the title — one of several elite professional and amateur events the club has hosted over the years.
The layout winds through mature stands of Douglas fir and cedar that are distinctly West Coast in character, demanding precision off the tee on a course that rewards shot-shaping over raw power. The par 73 reflects a design philosophy that leans on strategic interest rather than length alone.
Vancouver's mild, rainy climate keeps Shaughnessy's fairways lush through much of the year, and the surrounding neighbourhood — one of the city's most storied residential enclaves — gives the property an atmosphere of quiet, established prestige that few Canadian clubs can match.
