Il Picciolo Etna Golf Resort

Few golf settings anywhere in Europe carry the raw drama of Il Picciolo. The course occupies the slopes of Mount Etna, the largest active volcano on the continent, and the mountain's presence is constant — its crater looming above the fairways, the soil beneath your feet a reminder that this landscape was forged by eruption. Opened in the 1990s and designed to work with Etna's volcanic terrain rather than against it, the layout moves through ancient lava flows, pine and birch forest, and terraced hillside, creating elevation changes and natural corridors that no architect could manufacture from scratch.

The course sits near Castiglione di Sicilia, a medieval hilltop village in the Alcantara River valley, in the heart of one of Sicily's most celebrated wine regions. Il Picciolo functions as a full resort, with a converted manor house at its center.
