Nova Ponente sits in the Dolomites of South Tyrol, a region where Italian and Austrian cultures have overlapped for centuries — the local tongue is as likely to be German or Ladin as Italian. At around 1,500 meters above sea level, the landscape here is genuinely Alpine: steep meadows, conifer forests, and the jagged limestone towers of the Dolomiti di Eggental as a backdrop. Golf at this altitude plays differently than almost anywhere else in Italy, with thinner air, quick-draining turf, and afternoons that can turn cool even in midsummer.
Petersberg takes its name from the mountain hamlet above the town, and the course works with the natural contours of the hillside rather than against them. An 18-hole layout returning a par of 71 suggests at least one par-5 has been traded for an extra short hole — a common choice on mountain terrain where land forces creative routing decisions.
South Tyrol has built a quiet but serious golf identity, with several quality mountain courses drawing visitors who combine rounds with hiking, cycling, and the region's exceptional food and wine. Playing Petersberg means engaging with a landscape that does most of the design work on its own.
