Tjörns Golfklubb sits on the island of Tjörn, one of the larger inhabited islands along Sweden's Bohuslän coast, connected to the mainland by the striking Tjörn Bridge. This stretch of the Swedish west coast is defined by bare, wave-smoothed granite, sheltered inlets, and a maritime light that Scandinavian painters have long sought out — the Nordiska Akvarellmuseet, a celebrated watercolor museum, is actually situated nearby on the island. Golf here means playing in a landscape shaped more by ice age and sea than by any architect's hand, where the terrain imposes its character on the course rather than the other way around.
The club occupies ground typical of coastal Bohuslän — undulating, rock-punctuated, with heather and hardy coastal vegetation framing the fairways. Wind off the Skagerrak is a near-constant factor and functions as an informal extra hazard, shifting the effective difficulty of holes depending on the day and the season.
As a local members' club serving a tight-knit island community, Tjörns Golfklubb offers an authentically Swedish club experience — unhurried, well-kept, and grounded in the understated pleasures of playing good golf against a genuinely spectacular coastal backdrop.
