Few stretches of Irish coastline are as quietly dramatic as the Kenmare Bay area, where the Ring of Kerry sweeps through Sneem on its way around the Iveragh Peninsula. This is rugged, Atlantic-facing country — mountains tumbling toward the water, sub-tropical vegetation thriving in the mild Gulf Stream air, the kind of landscape that makes visitors stop their cars and simply stare. Parknasilla sits within this setting, and whatever the golf itself delivers, the surroundings alone make turning up worthwhile.
Parknasilla Golf Club is a 9-hole layout played to 18, which means the course works within a relatively intimate footprint rather than sprawling across the headland. That kind of layout rewards players who pay attention — repetition of holes in different conditions, with changing light and wind off the bay, can make the two loops feel genuinely distinct.
Sneem itself is one of Kerry's most celebrated villages, colorful and compact, and the broader area draws visitors to the Great Southern hotel at Parknasilla, a Victorian retreat with long associations with the surrounding estate. Golf here is part of a grander sense of place.
