Voikkaa is a small industrial village in Kymenlaakso, a region of southeastern Finland defined by the Kymi River and its tributaries, dense boreal forest, and a landscape shaped as much by the old paper and pulp industry as by nature. The Kymi River was once the backbone of Finland's forest industry, and Voikkaa itself grew up around a major paper mill — a setting that gives golf here an unusual, working-community character quite distinct from the manicured resort courses further south toward the Gulf of Finland.
Lampila Golf operates in that tradition of Finnish workers' and society clubs, where golf is a genuine local pursuit rather than a luxury amenity. Finland's short but intense golf season means courses in this latitude pack real meaning into every round — long summer evenings bring extraordinary light, and the surrounding spruce and pine forest frames play throughout, rewarding accuracy over raw power.
Kymenlaakso is not a region that draws destination golfers from abroad, but that's part of its honest appeal. This is golf played close to the ground, in a place that has its own quiet, forest-edged identity.
