Few courses in the Greater Toronto Area carry a name as storied as Royal Woodbine's. The club sits in the Etobicoke district of Toronto, adjacent to Woodbine Racetrack — one of Canada's most iconic thoroughbred racing venues — which gives the property an atmosphere unlike anything else in the city. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry redesigned the course in the 1990s, reshaping it into a modern parkland layout that makes inventive use of what is otherwise flat, industrial-edged terrain. The result is a course with genuine character: sculpted mounding, strategic bunkering, and enough variety to reward thoughtful play.
The par of 69 is worth noting not as a limitation but as a design choice — the card leans on shorter, more precise holes where positioning off the tee matters far more than raw distance.
Toronto's west end isn't traditional golf country, but Royal Woodbine has made a strong case for itself as a serious public-access option in Canada's largest city, drawing competitive players who appreciate a well-maintained, architecturally considered layout without the barrier of a private membership.
