Few corners of Welsh golf sit at quite such an elevation as the common land above Tredegar, where the Sirhowy Valley drops away and the Brecon Beacons fill the horizon on a clear day. The course occupies moorland terrain that is very much in the tradition of the Welsh upland clubs — exposed, windswept, and entirely honest about what it demands of you. When the weather rolls in from the west, as it does with some frequency, club selection becomes a genuine conversation.

Par 68 tells its own story before you even arrive. This is a shorter, tighter layout built for the geography rather than despite it, rewarding accuracy and local knowledge over raw distance. Compact par 4s and a handful of shorter holes keep the round moving, but the conditions and the contours ensure nothing is simply handed to you.

Tredegar itself is a former ironworking and coal town in Blaenau Gwent, with a proud industrial heritage and a community golf culture to match — the kind of club where the game is played seriously but without pretension.
