Kaohsiung Golf & Country Club sits in Niaosong District, a suburban area on the southern edge of Taiwan's second-largest city. Kaohsiung is a port metropolis with a distinctly different character from Taipei — warmer, more industrial in its bones, but surrounded by a landscape of low hills, tropical vegetation, and the kind of humid air that makes fairways play soft and lush for much of the year. Southern Taiwan's golf culture tends toward the serious and the social in equal measure, with private country clubs historically serving as important gathering places for the business community.
The "country club" designation points to a facility built for membership and amenity rather than public throughput — the kind of place where regulars know the nuances of every hole and where the ground staff's institutional knowledge runs deep.
Niaosong itself borders a large wetland reserve, and the broader Kaohsiung basin is flat near the coast but rises quickly toward forested inland ridges — terrain that has shaped how courses in the region were routed and how they feel underfoot.
