Few golf courses in Sweden sit at quite this latitude or altitude. Idrefjällens Golfklubb operates in one of the country's northernmost mountain communities, a small village in Dalarna's far northwest corner where the terrain rises toward the Norwegian border and the landscape belongs more to Scandinavia's high fells than to the lowland forests most Swedish courses occupy. The short playing season is simply a fact of life here — snow lingers well into spring — but summer rewards with extraordinary light, cool mountain air, and rounds played under the long Nordic sky.
Idre is best known as a ski destination, home to Idre Fjäll, one of Sweden's most popular alpine resorts. The golf course shares that same upland setting, meaning players can expect genuine elevation changes, firm mountain turf, and views that extend across the surrounding fells and conifer ridges. This is recreational golf in the truest sense — a course that belongs to its community and draws visitors who come to the region for the outdoors broadly.
For traveling golfers, the journey itself is part of the appeal. Idre sits roughly 500 kilometers north of Stockholm, deep in a valley that rewards those willing to make the drive with scenery and solitude that few courses anywhere in Sweden can match.
