Belconnen is one of Canberra's newer suburban districts, developed largely from the 1960s onward as the national capital expanded beyond its original planned core. The area sits in the northern reaches of the ACT, and golf in the region tends to reflect Canberra's character broadly — well-maintained, seriously played, and embedded in a community culture shaped by the city's unusually high concentration of educated, active residents. The Magpies club name signals a genuine local identity, the kind of suburban members' club built around belonging as much as birdies.
Canberra's climate gives this course a distinct seasonal rhythm. Winters are cold and crisp, with morning frosts that delay tee times, while summers can be sharp and dry under the high inland sun. The natural landscape of the ACT — eucalypt woodland, open grassland, and the occasional kangaroo on the fairway — tends to creep into any course that gives it room.
As a par 72 members' club in the suburbs, expect a layout designed for regular, social play: accessible enough for club golfers to enjoy, with enough variation across 18 holes to reward those who know the course well.
