Kilcoole Golf Club sits on the coastal plain of north County Wicklow, where the Irish Sea is never far from view and the Wicklow Mountains form a dramatic backdrop to the west. The club is a 9-hole parkland layout — unpretentious, community-rooted, and very much part of the fabric of this quiet coastal village between Greystones and Wicklow town. This stretch of the east coast is one of the more fertile corners of Irish golf, with the likes of Druids Glen, The European Club, and Powerscourt all within reasonable range, yet Kilcoole occupies a different register entirely: it is golf for the locals, built and maintained on modest means.
The course plays across relatively flat, well-grassed ground and offers a welcoming experience for players of all abilities. Without the elevation drama of the mountain courses nearby, it relies on its intimate scale and honest layout to deliver straightforward, enjoyable golf.
For visitors, Kilcoole is worth knowing as a low-key alternative to the marquee names of Wicklow — affordable, friendly, and genuinely part of an Irish village golfing tradition that still thrives on this stretch of coastline.
