Few golf destinations in America pack as many courses into one stretch of coastline as the Grand Strand, and Grande Dunes Resort Club sits at the upper end of that market — a course designed to compete with the best Myrtle Beach has to offer rather than simply add to its volume. Opened in 2001 and designed by Roger Rulewich, the layout occupies a prime piece of real estate along the Intracoastal Waterway, and water defines much of the experience. Wide fairways give way to demanding approach shots, and the back nine in particular uses the waterway scenery to dramatic effect.
The resort setting means conditions are consistently well-maintained, and the clubhouse and amenities match the upscale ambition of the design. It regularly appears among the top-ranked public courses in South Carolina, drawing serious golfers who want something beyond the mid-range beach-town track.
Myrtle Beach's subtropical climate keeps the course playable well into fall and open through most winters, which is half the reason the Grand Strand became one of America's great golf pilgrimage destinations in the first place.
