Few golf experiences in the American West put you as directly inside a working landscape as Roaring Fork Club. Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in the late 1990s, this private mountain club sits along the Roaring Fork River corridor between Aspen and Glenwood Springs, where the golf course shares the valley floor with elk, osprey, and the river itself. Fazio routed the layout to move naturally through the riparian terrain — wetlands, cottonwood groves, and the river come into play repeatedly, making water avoidance a genuine strategic concern rather than a decorative afterthought.
The club draws its membership largely from the Aspen second-home community, and that context shapes its character: understated but immaculately maintained, serious about its fishing and outdoor programming as much as its golf. The Roaring Fork River, one of Colorado's premier fly-fishing destinations, runs through the property and is protected as a private fishery for members.
Basalt itself is a small, unpretentious ranching town that has grown into a quieter alternative to Aspen's intensity — and the club reflects that same contrast, offering high-caliber mountain golf without the circus.
