Tom Weiskopf's design work at Seven Canyons, completed in 2001, is widely regarded as one of his finest achievements — and one of the most visually arresting courses in America. Cut directly into the red rock terrain surrounding Sedona, the layout uses the natural arroyos, canyon walls, and high desert vegetation not as backdrops but as active participants in nearly every hole. The routing crosses and re-crosses the dramatic landscape rather than imposing itself on it, and the result feels discovered rather than built.
As a private club, Seven Canyons keeps its membership deliberately intimate, which means the course plays in a state of quiet that matches its setting. Sedona itself sits at roughly 4,300 feet in the Arizona high country, surrounded by the iconic crimson formations of the Colorado Plateau — scenery that would be distracting if the golf weren't also genuinely demanding and interesting.
The course has earned consistent recognition on national ranking lists, and golfers who have played it tend to describe it in terms usually reserved for once-in-a-lifetime experiences. The red rock backdrop is unforgettable, but what lingers is how well the golf itself holds up against the scenery.
