Golf Sokolov

Golf Sokolov sits on reclaimed land in the Sokolov Basin, a landscape shaped — and scarred — by more than a century of open-cast lignite mining. That industrial history makes this course genuinely unusual: what was once one of the most heavily extracted regions in Central Europe has been partially transformed into recreational green space, and Golf Sokolov is among the more striking examples of that rehabilitation. The course opened in the early 2000s as part of broader land-reclamation efforts in the area, and playing here carries an awareness of that reinvention underfoot.

Dolní Rychnov is a small village on the western edge of Bohemia, close to Sokolov and within easy reach of Karlovy Vary — the famous spa town whose own golf history stretches back to the late 19th century. The broader Karlovy Vary region draws visitors for its thermal springs and grand architecture, and golf fits naturally into that recreational tradition.

The course itself offers a relaxed, community-oriented experience typical of Czech regional clubs — accessible rather than exclusive, with a layout that rewards local knowledge and plays through a terrain unlike almost anything else in Central European golf.
