Healdsburg sits at the northern end of Sonoma County wine country, where the Russian River and Dry Creek valleys converge and the surrounding hills roll in every direction. It's a town better known for pinot noir and weekend escapes from San Francisco than for golf, but Tayman Park has been a fixture of the community for decades — a municipal layout that belongs to the place in the way that only a city-owned course can.
At par 70, the course plays shorter and tighter than a regulation championship track, which shapes its personality considerably. Layouts like this tend to reward placement and creativity over raw power, making them more honest tests of a player's all-around game than their driver distance. The terrain of the Alexander Valley corridor gives courses in this pocket of California a naturally varied character, with oak-studded hillsides and a climate that keeps things green longer than much of the state.
For visitors passing through wine country, Tayman Park offers a genuinely local experience — an affordable, unhurried round in one of Northern California's most appealing small towns.
