John James Audubon State Park

Henderson sits on the Ohio River in far western Kentucky, where the landscape softens into bottomland hardwoods, open meadows, and the kind of birdsong-filled quiet that once drew the great naturalist John James Audubon to settle here for nearly a decade. It was in Henderson that Audubon painted many of his most celebrated works, and the state park bearing his name — museum, nature sanctuary, and golf course together — preserves a stretch of that same countryside he documented so obsessively in the early 19th century.

The course occupies wooded, rolling terrain typical of western Kentucky's river country, where mature trees frame nearly every hole and the sense of enclosure feels genuinely removed from the outside world.
