TPC Tampa Bay has been a fixture of the PGA Tour's Florida swing, having hosted the JCPenney Classic and later the Transitions Championship, which brought the top names in professional golf to this suburban Hillsborough County layout for over two decades. Designed by Bobby Weed and Chi Chi Rodriguez, who grew up playing on Puerto Rican municipal courses before becoming one of the game's great entertainers, the course opened in 1991 and carries the TPC network's trademark Stadium Course DNA — meaning it was built with tournament viewing corridors and spectator mounding baked into the design from the start.
The terrain is quintessential west-central Florida: wetlands, water carries, and mature palms threading through a landscape that's flat but rarely straightforward. Bermuda turf, afternoon thunderstorms, and the occasional breeze off Tampa Bay's broader watershed keep conditions in constant conversation with your shot selection.
A par 71 in this part of Florida signals that the course leans on precision over power — likely featuring a shorter par 5 count or a demanding par 3 sequence that rewards ball-strikers who can control trajectory and spin in the subtropical heat.
