Few resort courses in the American West carry the reputation Crosswater has earned. Designed by Bob Cupp and John Fought and opened in 1995, it occupies a genuinely dramatic piece of high-desert Oregon, where the Little Deschutes and Deschutes Rivers frame and intersect the routing. Water comes into play on nearly every hole, and the natural wetlands, towering ponderosa pines, and volcanic mountain backdrop give it a character that feels more like a private sanctuary than a resort amenity. It has consistently ranked among the top public-access courses in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
Sunriver itself sits at roughly 4,200 feet in elevation in central Oregon's Cascade Range, meaning the air is thin, the light is sharp, and the ball flies farther than golfers expect. Summers are warm and dry — genuinely ideal conditions — while the surrounding wilderness keeps the atmosphere quiet and unhurried.
Crosswater has hosted USGA events, including the U.S. Junior Amateur, which speaks to both the quality of the layout and the integrity of its conditioning. It plays long and demands accurate iron play, but the scenery has a way of making even difficult holes feel like a privilege rather than a punishment.
